  All kidding aside I'm sure this has a great impact on the community and production of food. It's the farmer that sufferers..and then dominoes up the human food chain.

  About 5 years ago, the hay fields behind our property was hit by "army worms". They ate everything(stripped the field bare) and then moved on to the next field. Unfortunately, the fields bordered on the residential properties where I live and so the "Army worms"..just crawled over and consumed the entire lawns.

  The farmer had absolutely no "hay" harvest that year and the next year either. It has taken some time for this land to become productive again.

  Swarms of locusts that earlier plagued Egypt brought their devastation on southern Israel on Sunday, devouring lawns and palm trees and causing panic among some children who wondered when the next biblical plague might strike.

  The pests have worked their way north since crossing the border on Friday and are on a path that would take them to the West Bank town of Jericho, where U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell was slated to meet Palestinian officials today. The red locusts originated in West Africa and travelled over Libya and Egypt. The insects are present every year in Africa, but the UN Food and Agriculture Organization warned last week that this year's swarms are especially large due to prolonged periods of heavy rainfall.

  A very sad loss of life.

  I wish the WTBTS would give up this "No Blood Transfusion" rule.

  We are never really protected from random acts of violence like this.

  Who would have thought they could get shot down going to the video store.

  So I finally said "I am pagan"

  i told my jw mum and jw brother that i'm pagan, i mean, this time i really told them.. previously i'd "mentioned it" to my mum, who seemed to accept it, but then chose to totally ignore what i'd said.. anyway, i suspect my jw brother reads this board, because of some things he said.... .

  my mother said i'm "jumping on the bandwagon" which made me think she knows more about neo-paganism than i'd realised lol .

  my brother surprised me very much.

  I too am glad your mom isn't shunning you.

  It will hurt if your brother turns his back on you. There is no denying that. It sure sounds like the J.W. talons are deep in his psyhe right now. Damned J.W. programming.

  Another name for Christmas???

  i absolutely love this time of year, and the warm feelings, and the general feeling of good will emitting from people, but, not really having a faith in christ or religion, i somehow find it difficult to use the word christmas, as it denotes a celebration of christ... .

  for those of us who enjoy this season, but aren't really firm believers, can any of us think of a name that could be used instead of the word "christmas", that would have special meaning for believers and non-believers alike, a word that evokes the same emotional feelings?

  i have spent the past week decking the halls, and setting up the "christmas" tree(s), getting ready for this holiday which i enjoy so much, but it is that one word "christmas" that somehow makes me feel as though i am contradicting myself, because i no longer have a faith in that higher power.

  "Blessmas.. using the word bless.

  You could say your having Christmas with a K.. Krissmas. Merry Krissmas with a K.

  or Merry Kiss-mas (enough of a change so that I don't have to say CHRIST-mas but gives me a warm feeling inside when I think about it.

  Or "Happy Merry-mas" to you.

  I'll watch your thread Ohiocowboy because I'm not struck with using "Christ" either.

  Now that I thunk up some .. for me I like Merry.

  today i visit the hospital for my pre-operative check up.

  if i'm found to be fit and healthy once more, then i will be admitted back into wsm general in 2 weeks time to get reconnected.. which will mean goodbye to the bag and hello to my a**!

  just in time for christmas.. it's something to with be able to withstand anasthesea.
